Who we are and what we do

2. Who are we?
We are a group of concerned citizens that are trying to raise awareness of the final oil crisis and how society is going to prepare. We and the rest of Sydney Peak Oil members are simply astonished that most Australian's are still not aware that peak oil is here -- and that oil prices could double in the next few years.
As sometimes proud -- and sometimes ashamed -- citizens of Australia, we simply wonder where the broader societal discussion is, even after numerous peak oil documentaries and reports? Why are we still wasting billions upgrading roads when personal auto transport may be incredibly expensive in just 10 years? Where was the peak oil debate in 2007's Federal Election? And what other implications does peak oil have for Sydney and the broader world community?
Sydney Peak Oil members are a group of concerned citizens volunteering our time to discuss peak oil here and learn more, write letters, magazine articles, spread information online, and inform governments. Now that both the Federal Senate and the Queensland State government have actually held inquiries and reported that there is a concern, we are trying to focus on person to person and online forum activism.
